Teaching Philosophies
Children should not be forced to take piano lessons because their parents want them to!
Music is for everyone, regardless of perceived talent. Work hard and enjoy every minute.
The more music you learn, the more you’ll grow.
You don’t always have to play music at the top of your ability level - “easy” music has just as many benefits.
Practice makes progress - there is no such thing as perfect!
There is always something to learn at your lesson, even if you didn’t practice.
All About Nicole
Little did 11 year old Nicole know, choosing the flute as a school band instrument was not only the lightest instrument to carry home, but would be the foundation to a lifelong love of performing and teaching music!
From humble beginnings, learning the flute in elementary school and as a recreational piano student, Nicole fostered her love of music from an early age. She excelled in elementary and high school band programs, private lessons, and finally in post secondary education, graduating Cum Laude from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Flute Performance.
Nicole has always loved performing, whether it be a casual gig with friends or a formal recital, but her journey has not always been easy. A bout of tendinitis nearly ended her performance days, but she persevered and learned to grow and thrive as a musician despite the setback. Nicole played flute and piccolo with the York Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, but after falling in love with the bass flute at a flute convention, she moved on to found Flute Flight Ensemble in 2015. Flute Flight is an all flute ensemble that performs in various capacities all over Toronto and York Region.
After teaching at several music schools in York Region, Nicole opened her own music studio, Treble Maker Music, in 2007 to share her love of music with a new generation. She became an RCM Elementary Piano Specialist in 2019, has Kinderflute training, and is currently a Little Flute Expert within the worldwide FlutePlay community.
When not teaching, Nicole continues to gather inspiration for her students through attending workshops, courses, and conventions, both online and in-person. Her absolute favourite part of the year is watching all of her students perform at Treble Maker Music Studio’s year end recital, because no matter the skill level, each student has something important to share.
